Published

Duke Energy reported $7.59 billion in total operating revenues for Q2 FY2026, the quarter ended June 30, 2026, up 1.1% from a year earlier, and net income attributable to Duke Energy of $1.09 billion, up 11.0%. The top line moved little: lower storm cost recovery revenues at Duke Energy Florida offset new rate case pricing, rider growth and higher weather normal retail volumes, and the matching decline in storm cost amortization cancelled the lost storm revenues rather than adding to profit. Operating income still reached $2.05 billion, up 12.0%, on those same pricing and volume gains plus lower property and other taxes, against higher depreciation on a larger asset base and higher impairments. Diluted earnings per share were $1.38 against $1.25 a year earlier, with higher interest expense keeping earnings growth below the operating income gain, and these reported results carry charges for North Carolina rate case regulatory settlements.

Notes

  • Duke Energy is a regulated electric and natural gas utility holding company, so this record uses a utility template: operating revenues split between regulated electric, regulated natural gas and nonregulated electric and other; fuel and purchased power and the other operating expense captions the statements print; operating income, interest expense, net income and earnings per share; rate-base measures on the balance sheet (gross and net property, plant and equipment, total debt, equity and book value per share); and operating cash flow against capital expenditures. A gross-margin frame would not be meaningful for this business, so no cost-of-revenue or gross-profit line is reported.
  • Annual figures come from Duke Energy's fiscal 2025 Form 10-K (accession 0001326160-26-000014), filed February 26, 2026. Its Consolidated Statements of Operations and Cash Flows present fiscal 2025, 2024 and 2023; its Consolidated Balance Sheets present only December 31, 2025 and December 31, 2024, so fiscal 2023 carries an income statement and a cash flow statement but no balance sheet.
  • Quarterly figures, the six-month views and the balance sheet at June 30, 2026 come from the Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 (accession 0001326160-26-000040), filed August 4, 2026. Its income statement prints four columns - the three months ended June 30, 2026 and 2025 and the six months ended June 30, 2026 and 2025 - and the two three-month columns are what the Q2 2026 and Q2 2025 entries hold. The six-month columns are reported separately as the year-to-date and prior-year-to-date blocks and are never presented as quarters.
  • The 10-Q's Condensed Consolidated Statements of Cash Flows are presented for the six months ended June 30, 2026 and 2025 only; no three-month cash flow column is published. Operating cash flow, capital expenditures and free cash flow are therefore reported for the six-month and trailing-twelve-month periods and for each fiscal year, and are deliberately absent from the two three-month entries. The quarterly earnings release furnished on August 4, 2026 (accession 0001326160-26-000037) also presents cash flows on a six-month basis only.
  • The trailing twelve months ended June 30, 2026 is a derived view, not a filed column: fiscal 2025 plus the six months ended June 30, 2026 less the six months ended June 30, 2025, taken line by line from the 10-K and the 10-Q. Its diluted earnings per share of $6.66 is the same combination of the published per-share amounts ($6.31 plus $3.35 less $3.00), and equals trailing-twelve-month net income available to common stockholders divided by the 779 million weighted average shares the 10-Q reports; a true twelve-month weighted average share count is not published. The continuing-operations and discontinued-operations per-share components shown for this view, $6.64 and $0.02, are combined the same way. No balance sheet is shown for this view - the relevant balance sheet is the one at June 30, 2026.
  • Duke Energy reports basic and diluted earnings per share as a single combined amount, because the dilution from its convertible notes and share-based awards is immaterial or antidilutive in every period here. The diluted_eps and diluted_shares fields therefore hold that combined basic-and-diluted figure. Earnings per share is struck on net income available to Duke Energy common stockholders, which is net income after both noncontrolling interests and preferred dividends.
  • Total liabilities, total debt and book value per common share are subtotals the balance sheet does not print and are derived here. Total liabilities is total current liabilities plus long-term debt plus total other noncurrent liabilities, and ties to total assets less total equity in every period. Total debt is notes payable and commercial paper plus current maturities of long-term debt plus long-term debt - $91.24 billion at June 30, 2026, against $89.84 billion at December 31, 2025. Book value per common share is Duke Energy Corporation stockholders' equity less the $973 million of Series A preferred stock, divided by the common shares outstanding stated in the balance sheet's common-stock caption (780 million at June 30, 2026, 778 million at December 31, 2025, 776 million at December 31, 2024).
  • Cash flow outflows are carried with the sign the statements print them with, so capital expenditures, dividends paid, debt redemptions and the investing total are negative. Free cash flow is operating cash flow less the absolute value of capital expenditures. On that basis Duke Energy's free cash flow is negative in every period reported here - negative $1.69 billion in fiscal 2025 and negative $3.97 billion for the six months ended June 30, 2026 - which is the normal shape of a utility funding a large rate-base construction program from debt and equity issuance rather than from operations.
  • Segment figures come from the Business Segments notes of the same two filings. Duke Energy reports two segments, Electric Utilities and Infrastructure and Gas Utilities and Infrastructure, with the remainder shown as Other (principally holding-company interest expense, unallocated corporate costs, the captive insurance company and the investment in National Methanol Company). Each segment carries both the revenue measures the note prints: unaffiliated revenues, which sum to consolidated total operating revenues, and total operating revenues, which also include intersegment revenues that are eliminated in consolidation and therefore sum to more than the consolidated line. Segment income is stated on a continuing-operations basis and sums to net income available to Duke Energy common stockholders before discontinued operations; in fiscal 2023 that distinction is large, because a $1,391 million discontinued-operations loss attributable to common stockholders sits below the segment total.
  • The 10-Q's December 31, 2025 balance sheet column agrees with the 10-K's audited December 31, 2025 column on every figure used here, including total assets of $195,736 million, total equity of $53,019 million and long-term debt of $80,108 million. The only presentational difference is receivables: the 10-K prints receivables of $4,214 million and receivables of variable interest entities of $16 million on separate lines, while the 10-Q combines them into the single $4,230 million line. No period has been restated, and nothing in these filings restates fiscal 2024 or fiscal 2023.
  • Two items explain most of the change in the balance sheet between December 31, 2025 and June 30, 2026. The Statements of Changes in Equity report a sale of noncontrolling interests, net of transaction costs, of $2,765 million in the six months ended June 30, 2026, of which $1,941 million was credited to additional paid-in capital and $824 million to noncontrolling interests; with $62 million of further noncontrolling-interest contributions this is the $2,827 million financing inflow on the cash flow statement. Separately, the sale of Piedmont's Tennessee business produced $2,501 million of investing proceeds and a $368 million pretax gain recorded within gains on sales of other assets, which is why six-month gains on asset sales are $394 million against $20 million a year earlier and why assets held for sale fall to zero.
  • Duke Energy's fiscal year is the calendar year, so fiscal 2025 runs January 1 to December 31, 2025 and the quarter reported here is the three months ended June 30, 2026. All figures are in actual U.S. dollars, converted from the millions the filings print; share counts are in actual shares; per-share amounts are in dollars. Duke Energy reports in U.S. dollars, has no stock splits in the period covered and is not an American Depositary Receipt issuer, so no currency, split or depositary-ratio adjustment has been applied.
  • The 10-K and the 10-Q are combined filings covering Duke Energy Corporation and several of its utility subsidiary registrants, each of which prints its own full set of statements. Every figure here is from the Duke Energy Corporation consolidated statements, not from any subsidiary registrant's.

Uncertainties

  • No discrete three-month cash flow statement exists for either Q2 2026 or Q2 2025. The 10-Q and the August 4, 2026 earnings release both present cash flows on a six-month basis only, and the first quarter of 2026 is not covered by either filing read for this record, so a three-month figure cannot be obtained by differencing. Operating cash flow, capital expenditures and free cash flow are therefore omitted from the Q2 2026 and Q2 2025 entries rather than estimated.
  • No balance sheet is reported for Q2 2025 or for fiscal 2023. The 10-Q's balance sheet presents only June 30, 2026 and December 31, 2025, and the 10-K's presents only December 31, 2025 and December 31, 2024. Total assets at December 31, 2023 of $176,893 million is the one exception: the 10-K's segment note prints it as the fiscal 2023 segment-asset total, so it appears in that year's segment block and nowhere else.
  • Diluted earnings per share of $6.66 for the trailing twelve months ended June 30, 2026 is derived, not filed. It is accurate to the cent on both routes described in the notes, but it combines three filed columns and is not a figure Duke Energy publishes.
  • Common shares outstanding is read from the words of the balance sheet's common-stock caption, which states the count rounded to the nearest million (780 million at June 30, 2026). Book value per common share, which is derived from it, is correspondingly approximate in its last cent.
  • The 10-K's fiscal 2025 capital investments and acquisitions of $14,002 million in the segment note differs from the $14,024 million of capital expenditures on the cash flow statement; these are two different measures, and the cash flow statement figure is the one used for capital expenditures and free cash flow throughout this record.

FAQ · Duke Energy financial statements

How much revenue did Duke Energy report in Q2 FY2026?

Duke Energy reported $7.59 billion in total operating revenues for Q2 FY2026, the quarter ended June 30, 2026. That is up 1.1% from $7.51 billion in the same quarter a year earlier, as lower storm cost recovery revenues in Florida offset rate increases and customer growth.

What was Duke Energy's EPS in Q2 FY2026?

Duke Energy reported diluted earnings per share of $1.38 for Q2 FY2026, the quarter ended June 30, 2026, up 10.4% from $1.25 a year earlier. That is the reported figure, which carries charges for North Carolina rate case regulatory settlements.

How much money did Duke Energy make in Q2 FY2026?

Duke Energy reported net income attributable to Duke Energy of $1.09 billion for Q2 FY2026, up 11.0% from $984 million a year earlier. Operating income was $2.05 billion, up 12.0%, with earnings growing faster than revenue as rate case pricing and volume growth outpaced higher depreciation and interest expense.

How much does Duke Energy's electric business earn?

Duke Energy's Electric Utilities and Infrastructure segment, the larger of its two reportable segments, reported segment income of $1.27 billion in Q2 FY2026, up 6.4% from $1.19 billion a year earlier. Almost all of Duke Energy's revenue comes from rate regulated electric and natural gas service, with the much smaller Gas Utilities and Infrastructure segment accounting for the rest.

When does Duke Energy Corporation (DUK) next file with the SEC?

Duke Energy Corporation (DUK) is expected to file its next Form 10-Q with the SEC on or around November 6, 2026. That date is a projection rather than a company-announced date: it is derived from Duke Energy Corporation's own filing history with the SEC, by taking the date the company filed the same fiscal period a year earlier and adding 52 weeks. The most recent periodic report on file is the 10-Q for Q2 FY2026, the period ended 2026-06-30, SEC accession 0001326160-26-000040.

How this page was built

This page was built from three of Duke Energy Corporation's own filings with the SEC, read one at a time. Nothing on it is taken from a pre-tagged dataset, a data vendor or another website. The figures are on the company's own fiscal calendar and in actual dollars, as the filings report them. Where the filings do not support a figure, the record says so instead of reporting a zero; this period names five such gaps.

A single company files thousands of pages with the SEC in a year, and no two companies file them the same way, so the reading and the assembly here are done by AI rather than by rules that break on the differences. Every pass is then audited back against the filings it came from before the page is published, and anything the filings do not support is left out and named rather than filled in. AI can still make mistakes. That is why the accession numbers are printed: the filing is the authority, and this page is a route to it.
