Published
Walmart reported $177.75 billion in total revenues for Q1 FY2027, the quarter ended April 30, 2026, up 7.3% from a year earlier, and net income attributable to Walmart of $5.33 billion, up 18.8%, or $0.67 per diluted share against $0.56 a year ago. The top line was led by eCommerce, where store-fulfilled delivery and the third-party marketplace drove the largest single share of the increase, with Walmart U.S. adding both transactions and average ticket and Walmart International helped by a currency tailwind that reversed the prior year's drag. Profit did not keep pace inside the business: operating income of $7.49 billion was up 5.0%, held back by higher depreciation, fuel costs in distribution and fulfillment, business reorganization charges and rising associate healthcare costs, while the faster growth in net income came largely from other gains and losses swinging from a year-ago net loss to a net gain on investment fair values.

Under Walmart's presentation the full annual dividend is declared in the first quarter, which is why the first-quarter income statement shows dividends declared per share of $0.99 while cash dividends paid in the quarter were about $2.0 billion. |
Notes
- All figures are stated in actual dollars. Both source filings present their statements in millions (the FY2026 10-K income statement is headed '(Amounts in millions, except per share data)'; the balance sheet, cash flow statement and segment note are headed '(Amounts in millions)'), so every dollar amount here is the figure printed in the filing restated in full dollars. Per-share amounts and the cover-page share counts stand at face value, being already expressed in dollars and whole shares.
- Annual coverage is what the FY2026 10-K (accession 0000104169-26-000055) itself presents: three years of income statement and cash flow (fiscal 2026, 2025 and 2024) and two years of balance sheet (January 31, 2026 and January 31, 2025). For January 31, 2024 only the items the same 10-K discloses elsewhere are carried here - total assets from the segment note and the equity components from the Consolidated Statements of Shareholders' Equity. The annual history therefore begins with fiscal 2024.
- Quarterly coverage is the Q1 fiscal 2027 10-Q (accession 0000104169-26-000102), which covers the three months ended April 30, 2026, together with the prior-year three months ended April 30, 2025 and the April 30, 2025 comparative balance sheet that the same filing presents.
- Walmart does not present a gross profit line. The 'gross_profit_derived' figure is net sales less cost of sales, computed here; the company's own cost of sales includes merchandise cost, inbound and outbound transportation, and the cost of warehousing for Sam's Club, while store and club operating costs sit in operating, selling, general and administrative expenses. Gross margin is expressed against net sales, not against total revenues, because membership and other income carries no cost of sales.
- Total debt is not a line item in the filings. Three derived measures are given for each balance sheet date: borrowings only (short-term borrowings plus long-term debt due within one year plus long-term debt); borrowings plus finance lease obligations; and borrowings plus finance and operating lease obligations. At January 31, 2026 these are $44.8 billion, $51.5 billion and $67.1 billion respectively. The FY2026 10-K separately discloses that long-term debt including amounts due within one year had a carrying value of $38,166 million and a fair value of $36,777 million at January 31, 2026.
- Free cash flow is Walmart's own non-GAAP definition - net cash provided by operating activities less payments for property and equipment - and the FY2026 10-K reconciles it to $14,923 million for fiscal 2026, $12,660 million for fiscal 2025 and $15,120 million for fiscal 2024. The 10-Q reconciles negative $1,946 million for the quarter ended April 30, 2026 against positive $425 million a year earlier; the first quarter is seasonally the heaviest for inventory build and capital spending, so a negative first-quarter figure is not by itself a change in the annual trend.
- The 10-Q states that beginning in February 2026 the company updated its segment allocation methodology for certain corporate overhead allocations and revised the prior-period amounts for comparability. The quarterly segment operating income shown here for the three months ended April 30, 2025 is therefore the revised figure as presented in the Q1 fiscal 2027 10-Q, which will not tie to what was originally reported for that quarter a year earlier. Consolidated operating income is unaffected. The annual segment figures come from the FY2026 10-K and are on the pre-revision basis.
- Walmart's 3-for-1 forward stock split took effect February 26, 2024. Both source filings present all per-share amounts and weighted-average share counts on a post-split basis, including the fiscal 2024 comparative column whose year ended January 31, 2024 - before the split date. No additional split adjustment has been applied here, and the per-share history is comparable across all periods shown.
- Other (gains) and losses swung from a $3,027 million loss in fiscal 2024 and a $794 million loss in fiscal 2025 to a $2,075 million gain in fiscal 2026. The FY2026 10-K attributes this mainly to fair value changes on the company's equity and debt investments, whose fair value rose $1.5 billion during fiscal 2026; fiscal 2025 included a $0.3 billion realized loss on the sale of the JD.com investment for roughly $3.6 billion of net proceeds. This is an investment-mark line, not an operating result, and it is the main reason net income grew faster than operating income in fiscal 2026.
- eCommerce net sales are disclosed by the company as approximate amounts stated to the nearest $0.1 billion (for example, 'approximately $99.6 billion' for Walmart U.S. in fiscal 2026). They are recorded here at that stated precision and should be read as approximations, not as exact reported amounts.
- Comparable sales percentages here are Walmart's calendar comparable sales, calculated on the company's fiscal calendar. The company notes these can differ from the retail (4-5-4) calendar comparable sales it gives in its quarterly earnings releases.
- Effective tax rate is derived as the provision for income taxes divided by income before income taxes. It rose to 24.4% in fiscal 2026 from 23.4% in fiscal 2025 and 25.5% in fiscal 2024.
Uncertainties
- No full balance sheet as of January 31, 2024 appears in either filing, because the FY2026 10-K presents only two balance sheet dates. The fiscal 2024 balance sheet block is therefore partial - total assets and the equity components only - and cash, inventories, debt and the remaining line items for that date are not available from these filings.
- Segment operating income for the three months ended April 30, 2025 reflects the revised corporate-overhead allocation methodology adopted in February 2026. Comparing that quarter's segment margins against the annual fiscal 2026 segment figures, which are on the earlier basis, is not strictly apples-to-apples. The size of the reallocation is not quantified in the 10-Q.
- The trailing-twelve-month figures are derived from the two filings rather than reported as such by the company. The trailing diluted earnings per share of $2.84 is the sum of the reported period figures and will differ slightly from net income divided by a trailing weighted-average share count, because the share count changed across the periods.
- The company is participating in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection process for refunds of tariffs it paid as importer of record under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, and states that the timing, amounts and ultimate resolution remain uncertain. No amounts were recognized for these claims in the three months ended April 30, 2026, so none appear in the figures here.
- Retail unit counts and square footage are as of January 31, 2026 from the FY2026 10-K business section and are not updated for the quarter ended April 30, 2026; the 10-Q does not restate them.
- The fiscal 2026 dividend of $0.94 per share declared does not tie to the $7,507 million of dividends paid in fiscal 2026 divided by the share count, because declaration and payment fall in different periods under Walmart's annual-declaration convention. Both figures are as filed; the difference is timing, not a discrepancy.

FAQ · Walmart financial statements
How much revenue did Walmart report in Q1 FY2027?
Walmart reported $177.75 billion in total revenues for Q1 FY2027, the quarter ended April 30, 2026. That is up 7.3% from $165.61 billion in the same quarter a year earlier, led by eCommerce, with store-fulfilled delivery and the third-party marketplace the biggest contributors and reported growth at Walmart International helped by a currency tailwind that reversed the prior year's drag.
What was Walmart's earnings per share in Q1 FY2027?
Walmart earned $0.67 per diluted share in Q1 FY2027, the quarter ended April 30, 2026, up from $0.56 a year earlier, on net income attributable to Walmart of $5.33 billion, up 18.8%. Part of that increase came from outside the retailing business, because other gains and losses swung from a net loss a year ago to a net gain on investment fair values.
What was Walmart's operating income in Q1 FY2027?
Walmart's operating income was $7.49 billion in Q1 FY2027, up 5.0% from $7.13 billion a year earlier, while total revenues were up 7.3%. Gross margin improved slightly, so the gap sits in operating costs: higher depreciation from a stepped-up capital program, higher fuel costs in distribution and fulfillment, business reorganization charges in Walmart U.S. and Corporate, and higher associate healthcare costs on greater enrollment and medical cost inflation.
Why did Walmart's net income grow faster than its operating income in Q1 FY2027?
Net income attributable to Walmart was $5.33 billion in Q1 FY2027, up 18.8%, against operating income of $7.49 billion, up 5.0%. Most of that difference is non-operating: other gains and losses swung from a net loss a year earlier to a net gain on investment fair values, so the earnings increase runs ahead of the improvement in the retailing business itself.

How this page was built
This page was built from two of Walmart Inc.'s own filings with the SEC, read one at a time. Nothing on it is taken from a pre-tagged dataset, a data vendor or another website. The figures are on the company's own fiscal calendar and in actual dollars, as the filings report them. Where the filings do not support a figure, the record says so instead of reporting a zero; this period names six such gaps.
A single company files thousands of pages with the SEC in a year, and no two companies file them the same way, so the reading and the assembly here are done by AI rather than by rules that break on the differences. Every pass is then audited back against the filings it came from before the page is published, and anything the filings do not support is left out and named rather than filled in. AI can still make mistakes. That is why the accession numbers are printed: the filing is the authority, and this page is a route to it.
