PeriodQ2 FY2027
Published
TJX Companies reported $15.18 billion in net sales for Q2 FY2027, the quarter ended August 1, 2026, up 5.4% from a year earlier, on comparable sales growth of 4.0% at the off-price retailer's stores and e-commerce sites. Net income was $1.52 billion, up 22.3%, and diluted earnings per share were $1.36 against $1.10 a year earlier. A large part of that earnings increase came from a net benefit recognized in cost of sales after TJX received refunds of tariffs it had previously paid under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, a recovery of costs already incurred rather than a gain on trading; excluding that benefit, the company's profit growth was considerably more modest.

Fiscal 2026 (ended January 31, 2026) and fiscal 2025 (ended February 1, 2025) were 52-week years; fiscal 2024 (ended February 3, 2024) was a 53-week year, so its figures cover one extra selling week and are not directly comparable with the years either side of it. Fiscal 2027 will be a 52-week year ending January 30, 2027. Each period carries a weeks_in_period field.
- Fiscal 2024 carries no balance sheet. The FY2026 10-K's balance sheet presents only January 31, 2026 and February 1, 2025, so no February 3, 2024 balance sheet appears in the filings behind this record.
- Cash flow for the quarter: the Q2 FY2027 10-Q presents its statements of cash flows for the twenty-six weeks only, so no three-month cash flow figure appears on it. The six-month figures are therefore reported in the year_to_date block and no operating cash flow, capital expenditure or free cash flow figure is stated for the three months ended August 1, 2026 or August 2, 2025. In its Q2 FY2027 earnings release (accession 0000109198-26-000045) the company described generating approximately $2.2 billion of operating cash flow in the quarter; that is a rounded narrative figure rather than a statement line, and it has not been carried into the quarterly blocks.
- Gross profit: TJX does not print a gross profit subtotal. The gross_profit line here is net sales less cost of sales, including buying and occupancy costs, which is the basis the company itself uses when it quotes a gross profit margin (33.4% for the second quarter of fiscal 2027, matching a 66.6% cost of sales ratio).
- Operating income: TJX does not print an operating income subtotal either. The operating_income line here is net sales less cost of sales less selling, general and administrative expenses, that is, pre-tax income before net interest. It equals total segment profit less general corporate expense in every period shown, which is how the company builds pre-tax income in its segment note.
- Net interest: the income statement prints a net interest line in parentheses because TJX earns more interest income than it pays. The net_interest_income line here states that as a positive amount of income ($121 million in fiscal 2026, $31 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2027).
- Sign convention in the cash flow blocks: capital_expenditures, share_repurchases, dividends_paid, net_cash_used_in_investing_activities and net_cash_used_in_financing_activities are stated as positive amounts of cash going out. Free cash flow is operating cash flow less capital expenditures (the 'Property additions' line).
- Total debt and total liabilities are not printed as subtotals. total_debt is the current portion of long-term debt plus long-term debt ($2,871 million at August 1, 2026); it excludes operating lease liabilities, which are shown separately as current, long-term and total. total_liabilities is total assets less total shareholders' equity, and it foots to the sum of the printed liability captions in every period.
- Segment results use TJX's own definition of segment profit: pre-tax income before general corporate expense, net interest and certain separately disclosed unusual or infrequent items. Sierra's results sit inside the Marmaxx segment.
- Comparable sales growth is the percentage the company states for consolidated comp sales: 5% for fiscal 2026 and 4% for fiscal 2025, 4% for the second quarter of both fiscal 2027 and fiscal 2026, and 5% for the first six months of fiscal 2027 against 4% a year earlier. No figure is shown for fiscal 2024 because the FY2026 10-K does not state one, referring the reader instead to the fiscal 2025 annual report. TJX defines comp sales as sales of stores and e-commerce sites in their third fiscal year of operation or later, calculated on a 52-week basis, with foreign segments on a constant currency basis.
- Tariff refunds distort the second quarter of fiscal 2027. TJX received $331 million of refunds of previously paid International Emergency Economic Powers Act tariffs and recognized the benefit in cost of sales, and accrued $112 million of incremental year-end incentive compensation and discretionary bonus expense in cost of sales and SG&A as a result. The net benefit to pre-tax profit was $219 million, worth $0.14 of the quarter's $1.36 of diluted earnings per share and 1.4 percentage points of the 13.3% pre-tax profit margin. The figures reported here are the reported ones, including that benefit.
- Dividends declared per share for fiscal 2026, 2025 and 2024 ($1.70, $1.50 and $1.33) come from the earnings per share note of the FY2026 10-K (accession 0000109198-26-000008). The quarterly and six-month amounts ($0.480 and $0.960 for fiscal 2027, $0.425 and $0.850 for fiscal 2026) come from the last line of the earnings per share note of the Q2 FY2027 10-Q (accession 0000109198-26-000048), which is also the source of the periods themselves; the same $0.48 and $0.425 quarterly rates are restated in that filing's liquidity discussion.
- The trailing_twelve_months block is arithmetic on the printed periods, not a column TJX publishes: fiscal 2026 plus the twenty-six weeks ended August 1, 2026 less the twenty-six weeks ended August 2, 2025, giving the 52 weeks ended August 1, 2026. Its diluted earnings per share ($5.40) is the same combination of the printed per-share amounts and no weighted share count is stated for it, because none is published for that window.
- No currency translation, ADR or stock-split adjustment applies. TJX reports in U.S. dollars, its shares are ordinary common shares listed directly on the New York Stock Exchange, and its only split since 2018 (a two-for-one in November 2018) predates every period reported here, so all per-share amounts are already on a consistent basis.
Uncertainties
- No three-month cash flow figures are reported for the second quarters of fiscal 2027 and fiscal 2026. The Q2 FY2027 10-Q and the quarter's earnings release both present statements of cash flows for the twenty-six week period only, and the quarter has not been derived by subtraction.
- Fiscal 2024 has no balance sheet here, because the FY2026 10-K does not present one at February 3, 2024. Comparisons of fiscal 2024 balance-sheet items against later years cannot be made from this record.
- Fiscal 2024 was a 53-week year. Its net sales, expenses and cash flows include a fifty-third week, so year-over-year growth into fiscal 2025 is understated relative to a like-for-like 52-week comparison. TJX calculates its comparable sales on a 52-week basis, which removes the extra week from that measure but not from the reported totals.
- The trailing-twelve-month figures, including diluted earnings per share of $5.40, are derived by combining published periods rather than read from a single column, and the second quarter's tariff refund benefit sits inside them.
- Operating income and gross profit are subtotals TJX does not print; they are computed from the printed lines as described in the notes. A reader comparing them to another retailer should check that the other company's cost of sales also includes buying and occupancy costs, as TJX's does.
- The amount, timing and likelihood of any further tariff refunds are uncertain. TJX estimates it has paid roughly $490 million of these tariffs in total, has received $331 million, and has recorded no receivable for anything further as of August 1, 2026.

How this page was built
This page was built from three of TJX Companies Inc.'s own filings with the SEC, read one at a time. Nothing on it is taken from a pre-tagged dataset, a data vendor or another website. The figures are on the company's own fiscal calendar and in actual dollars, as the filings report them. Where the filings do not support a figure, the record says so instead of reporting a zero; this period names six such gaps.
A single company files thousands of pages with the SEC in a year, and no two companies file them the same way, so the reading and the assembly here are done by AI rather than by rules that break on the differences. Every pass is then audited back against the filings it came from before the page is published, and anything the filings do not support is left out and named rather than filled in. AI can still make mistakes. That is why the accession numbers are printed: the filing is the authority, and this page is a route to it.
