Adjustments
| Splits applied | none |
|---|---|
| Splits note | Sony carried out a five-for-one stock split of its common stock effective October 1, 2024. Every per-share figure and share count in the Form 20-F and the Form 6-K is already stated on the post-split basis, so no adjustment was made. |
| ADR ratio | 1 |
| Per share basis | Per-share figures are US dollars per American Depositary Share. The Form 20-F cover page states: "Each American Depositary Share represents one share of Common Stock", so each per-ADS amount equals the per-share amount the filings print, converted to dollars. Share counts are numbers of common shares. |
| FX | Sony reports in Japanese yen; every money figure here is converted to US dollars. Income statement, cash flow and per-share figures use the average rate for their own period and balance sheet figures use the rate on their own date. Where Sony states a rate, it is used: 150.7 yen per US dollar for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026 (Form 20-F, Item 5), and 159.3 and 144.6 yen per US dollar for the quarters ended June 30, 2026 and June 30, 2025 (results presentation furnished on Form 6-K, accession 0001104659-26-088922). The filings state no average rate for the fiscal years ended March 31, 2025 and 2024 and no balance sheet date rates, so those use the Federal Reserve's daily yen-dollar rates (series DEXJPUS): averages of about 152.40 and 144.51, and 159.08 at March 31, 2026, 149.90 at March 31, 2025 and 162.61 at June 30, 2026. Each period records the rate it was converted at under 'conversion'. |
Notes
- Sony prepares its financial statements under IFRS Accounting Standards as issued by the IASB and its fiscal year ends March 31. This page names each fiscal year by the calendar year in which it ends: FY2026 is the year ended March 31, 2026 and Q1 FY2027 is the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Sony's own documents name fiscal years by the year in which they begin, so Sony calls the same periods FY2025 and Q1 FY2026; each period's 'filing_label' gives Sony's name.
- Annual figures come from the audited consolidated financial statements in the Form 20-F for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026 (accession 0001193125-26-274893), which presents three fiscal years of income and cash flows and balance sheets at March 31, 2026 and 2025. Quarterly figures come from the unaudited condensed quarterly consolidated financial statements in the Consolidated Financial Summary for the first quarter ended June 30, 2026, furnished on Form 6-K on July 31, 2026 (accession 0001104659-26-088915); Sony states those statements were not reviewed by an audit firm. The results presentation furnished the same day (accession 0001104659-26-088922) prints the same results rounded to billions of yen and states the quarter's average exchange rates.
- Effective October 1, 2025 Sony executed a partial spin-off of Sony Financial Group Inc., which operated the Financial Services business. That business is presented as a discontinued operation, and the filings re-present all prior periods shown here so that sales, operating income and the lines down to 'net income from continuing operations' exclude it. 'net_income' and 'net_income_attributable_to_sony_group_stockholders' are the consolidated totals including discontinued operations; the '_continuing_operations' lines exclude them.
- For the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026 Sony reported a net loss attributable to Sony Group Corporation's stockholders of 326,865 million yen (diluted loss of 54.36 yen per share), against net income from continuing operations attributable to stockholders of 1,030,893 million yen (171.44 yen per diluted share). The difference is the 1,357,758 million yen net loss from discontinued operations; the Form 20-F explains that on execution of the spin-off 1,377,795 million yen of accumulated other comprehensive income relating to the Financial Services business was transferred to net income (loss) from discontinued operations as a loss. The spin-off was distributed to shareholders as a dividend in kind of 955,700 million yen, recorded in the statement of changes in stockholders' equity.
- The March 31, 2025 balance sheet still consolidates the Financial Services business (total assets 35,293,173 million yen, including 19,189,975 million yen of investments and advances in that segment and 12,689,306 million yen of insurance contract liabilities); the March 31, 2026 balance sheet does not (total assets 15,683,490 million yen). The two dates are therefore not comparable, and the March 31, 2025 short-term borrowings and debt include the Financial Services business.
- Derived lines, which the filings do not print as such: 'gross_profit' is sales less cost of sales; 'total_debt' is short-term borrowings plus the current portion of long-term debt plus long-term debt, excluding lease liabilities, which are shown separately; 'free_cash_flow' is net cash provided by operating activities from continuing operations less payments for property, plant and equipment and other intangible assets.
- 'operating_cash_flow', 'investing_cash_flow' and 'financing_cash_flow' are the statement's totals for continuing operations, the basis on which Sony states its own operating cash flow figure. 'operating_cash_flow_including_discontinued_operations' is the consolidated 'Net cash provided by operating activities'. 'capex' is the line 'Payments for property, plant and equipment and other intangible assets', so it includes intangible assets. Cash outflows (capex, dividends paid, purchases of treasury stock) are negative, as the statements print them.
- Exchange rates move the US-dollar figures independently of the business. In yen, sales for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 rose 8.2% year on year, from 2,621,615 million yen to 2,837,771 million yen, but the average rate weakened from 144.6 to 159.3 yen per US dollar, so the converted dollar figure for the quarter is lower than the year-ago quarter's. Compare growth rates in yen.
- Segment figures are taken from the business segment notes. Segment sales include intersegment transactions and segment operating income excludes unallocated corporate expenses, so the segments add up to the consolidated totals only together with 'corporate_and_elimination'. Per the Form 20-F, intersegment amounts and segment operating income for the fiscal years include transactions with the discontinued Financial Services business.
- Share counts: weighted-average basic and diluted shares are from the EPS notes, printed in thousands and stated here as actual numbers. 'shares_outstanding_at_period_end' for FY2026 is the count on the Form 20-F cover page at March 31, 2026; for Q1 FY2027 it is the issued shares less treasury stock printed on the first quarter's summary (5,965,316,326 less 92,854,256). Issued shares fell from 6,149,810,645 at March 31, 2026 because Sony cancelled treasury stock in the quarter (577,567 million yen at cost).
- The quarter ended June 30, 2026 is the first quarter of the fiscal year, so fiscal year-to-date figures equal the quarter's and no separate year-to-date block is given. The trailing-twelve-month block is derived on a continuing-operations basis (fiscal year ended March 31, 2026 plus the June 2026 quarter less the June 2025 quarter, computed in yen) and converted at the average yen-dollar rate for July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026, so it does not equal the sum of the converted periods.
- The SEC's XBRL company facts carry revenue for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025 as 12,957,064 million yen, the figure originally reported including the Financial Services business. The Form 20-F re-presents that year's sales from continuing operations as 12,034,917 million yen, and that is the figure used here.
Uncertainties
- The rates Sony states (150.7, 159.3 and 144.6 yen per US dollar) are printed to one decimal place, so the converted figures for those periods carry a rounding margin of roughly 0.03%.
- Average rates for the fiscal years ended March 31, 2025 and 2024 and every balance sheet date rate are Federal Reserve rates, not rates stated in the filings; Sony's internal translation rates for those periods may differ slightly.
- The March 31, 2025 balance sheet includes the Financial Services business that was spun off in October 2025, so balance sheet changes from March 31, 2025 to March 31, 2026 mostly reflect the spin-off rather than the operating business.

How this page was built
This page was built from three of Sony Group Corporation's own filings with the SEC, read one at a time. Nothing on it is taken from a pre-tagged dataset, a data vendor or another website. The figures are on the company's own fiscal calendar and in actual dollars, as the filings report them. Where the filings do not support a figure, the record says so instead of reporting a zero; this period names three such gaps.
A single company files thousands of pages with the SEC in a year, and no two companies file them the same way, so the reading and the assembly here are done by AI rather than by rules that break on the differences. Every pass is then audited back against the filings it came from before the page is published, and anything the filings do not support is left out and named rather than filled in. AI can still make mistakes. That is why the accession numbers are printed: the filing is the authority, and this page is a route to it.
