PeriodQ2 FY2026

Published

NextEra Energy reported $7.53 billion in operating revenues for Q2 FY2026, the quarter ended June 30, 2026, up 12.4% from a year earlier, and net income attributable to NextEra Energy of $3.14 billion, up 55.0%, or $1.50 per diluted share. Most of that earnings increase came from a swing to after-tax gains on non-qualifying hedge activity rather than from the underlying businesses, and NextEra Energy's own adjusted earnings per share, which exclude those marks, rose far less. Florida Power & Light, the rate-regulated Florida utility, earned $1.41 billion, up 10.7%, on higher retail base rates and a larger rate base, while the competitive NextEra Energy Resources segment earned $1.63 billion, up 66.2%, most of that increase coming from those same non-qualifying hedge and mark-to-market movements rather than from segment operations; NextEra Energy's all-stock combination with Dominion Energy remains pending.

Schema templateutility
Schema noteNextEra Energy is a rate-regulated electric utility (Florida Power & Light, 'FPL') combined with a competitive generation and regulated-transmission business (NextEra Energy Resources, 'NEER'). The statements are presented the way a utility reports: operating revenues, the operating cost stack (fuel and purchased power, other operations and maintenance, depreciation and amortization, taxes other than income taxes), operating income, interest expense, and both consolidated net income and net income attributable to NextEra Energy. There is no cost-of-goods-sold or gross-margin line on the face of these statements, so none is shown.

NoteNo adjustments were needed. NextEra Energy reports in US dollars and is not an ADR. Its last stock split was the 4-for-1 forward split effective October 2020, which precedes every period reported here, so all per-share amounts are on the same basis as the filings print them.

Notes

  • Sources. Fiscal 2025, 2024 and 2023 come from the FY2025 Form 10-K (accession 0000753308-26-000015), which presents three years of income statement and cash flow and balance sheets at December 31, 2025 and 2024. The second quarter of 2026, the second quarter of 2025 and both six-month periods come from the second-quarter 2026 Form 10-Q (accession 0000753308-26-000060), which also carries the balance sheet at June 30, 2026. The non-GAAP adjusted earnings block comes from the second-quarter 2026 earnings news release furnished as Exhibit 99 to the Form 8-K dated July 24, 2026 (accession 0000753308-26-000058). Every figure is stated in actual dollars; the statements themselves are printed in millions.
  • Two net income lines. NextEra Energy consolidates partnerships it does not wholly own, so its income statement reports consolidated net income first and then net income attributable to NextEra Energy. Both are kept here under those names. In every period shown the attributable figure is the larger of the two, because the noncontrolling investors in those partnerships are allocated losses: $1,503 million of them in 2025 and $522 million in the second quarter of 2026. Earnings per share is struck on net income attributable to NextEra Energy, not on the consolidated line.
  • Capital spending and free cash flow. The `capex` figure is the single line the segment note prints as 'Capital expenditures, independent power and other investments and nuclear fuel purchases' - $24,606 million for 2025, $24,729 million for 2024, $25,113 million for 2023, $19,389 million for the first half of 2026 and $13,626 million for the first half of 2025. It is the sum of the four spending lines the cash flow statement prints separately (Florida Power & Light capital expenditures, NextEra Energy Resources independent power and other investments, nuclear fuel purchases and other capital expenditures), each of which is also reported here as the cash flow statement prints it, as a negative outflow. Free cash flow is operating cash flow less that total. It is deeply negative in every period because NextEra Energy is spending roughly twice its operating cash flow on building generation, storage and transmission; the gap is funded with debt and equity, which is what the financing section of the cash flow statement shows.
  • No three-month cash flow figures. The 10-Q's cash flow statement presents six-month columns only, and the second-quarter earnings news release contains no cash flow statement, so no cash flow is published here for the second quarter of 2026 or the second quarter of 2025 on its own. The six-month cash flow for both years is in the year-to-date block.
  • Fiscal 2023 balance sheet. The 10-K presents balance sheets at December 31, 2025 and 2024 only. The two December 31, 2023 balance sheet amounts shown for fiscal 2023 - total assets of $177,489 million and net property, plant and equipment of $125,776 million - are the only two the 10-K prints for that date, in its segment note. No other 2023 balance sheet line is published here.
  • Total debt. `total_debt_derived` adds the four borrowing lines the balance sheet prints: commercial paper, other short-term debt, the current portion of long-term debt, and long-term debt. It was $95,619 million at December 31, 2025 and $110,197 million at June 30, 2026.
  • Interest expense moves with derivative marks, not only with borrowing. The 10-K states that for interest rate and foreign currency derivative instruments, all changes in fair value, as well as the transaction gain or loss on foreign denominated debt, are recognized in interest expense. That is why the line reads $3,324 million in 2023, $2,235 million in 2024 and $4,572 million in 2025, and only $487 million in the second quarter of 2026 against $1,060 million a year earlier. The 10-K attributes the weaker Corporate and Other result in 2025 primarily to higher interest expense from unfavorable non-qualifying hedge activity compared with 2024, as well as higher average debt balances.
  • Dividends per share. The income statement does not carry a dividends-per-share line; the figures here are the ones stated in the footnote to the statement of equity: $2.27 for 2025, $2.06 for 2024 and $1.87 for 2023, and $0.6232 for the second quarter of 2026 against $0.5665 for the second quarter of 2025. The six-month amounts, $1.2464 for 2026 and $1.1330 for 2025, are two quarters added together, which the 10-Q supports by stating that dividends per share were $0.6232 for each of the quarterly periods in 2026 and $0.5665 for each of the quarterly periods in 2025.
  • Segment results. NextEra Energy reports two segments - Florida Power & Light (FPL), the rate-regulated Florida utility, and NextEra Energy Resources (NEER), the competitive generation and regulated transmission business - plus Corporate and Other, which holds remaining activities, eliminating entries and, in the company's words, may include the net effect of rounding. The three add to the consolidated revenue and net income lines. FPL earned $5,012 million of the $6,835 million attributable to NextEra Energy in 2025 and $1,412 million of $3,144 million in the second quarter of 2026.
  • Merger-related expenses. The 2026 income statement adds a line the earlier years do not have, merger-related expenses of $32 million in the second quarter of 2026, which the 10-Q discusses in connection with the proposed combination with Dominion Energy announced in May 2026 and still pending at the filing date.
  • Trailing twelve months. The trailing-twelve-month block covers July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026 and is arithmetic, not a filed column: fiscal 2025 plus the six months ended June 30, 2026 less the six months ended June 30, 2025. Its diluted earnings per share of $4.45 is derived the same way - fiscal 2025 diluted earnings per share of $3.30 plus $2.54 for the six months ended June 30, 2026 less $1.39 for the six months ended June 30, 2025 - so it adds per-share figures struck on different weighted average share counts; no weighted share count is published for such a period, so none is shown.
  • Restatements. None. The comparative columns the 10-Q prints for 2025 agree with the figures in the 10-K, and the 10-K's 2024 and 2023 columns are presented on the same basis as in that filing.

Uncertainties

  • No cash flow statement exists for a single three-month period in these filings, so second-quarter operating cash flow, capital spending and free cash flow are not reported here and cannot be derived from what the 10-Q prints alone.
  • The six-month dividends-per-share amounts ($1.2464 for 2026, $1.1330 for 2025) are the sum of two quarterly amounts rather than a figure printed as a six-month total.
  • Every trailing-twelve-month figure is derived arithmetic rather than a reported column, and the trailing per-share amount adds per-share figures struck on different weighted share counts, so it is approximate to about a cent.
  • Fiscal 2023 carries only two balance sheet amounts, because the 10-K's balance sheet columns stop at December 31, 2024. No 2023 debt, equity or cash balance is published here.
  • Adjusted earnings and adjusted earnings per share are the company's own non-GAAP measure, taken from a news release furnished with a Form 8-K rather than from an audited or reviewed financial statement. They are shown beside the GAAP figures they reconcile to and should not be read as a substitute for them.
  • Quarterly figures for the first and third quarters of 2026 are not published here: the second-quarter 2026 10-Q (accession 0000753308-26-000060) prints the second quarter and the two six-month periods, and nothing in these filings gives the first quarter as a discrete three-month column.

Non GAAP adjusted earnings

Value
MeasureAdjusted earnings and adjusted earnings per share (non-GAAP)
DefinitionNextEra Energy's adjusted earnings exclude, in the company's words, the effects of non-qualifying hedges; XPLR Infrastructure, LP net investment gains; the change in unrealized gains and losses on equity securities held in NextEra Energy Resources' nuclear decommissioning funds and other than temporary impairments; and merger-related expenses. The company reconciles the measure to net income attributable to NextEra Energy, which is the comparable GAAP figure reported above, and states that adjusted earnings is not a substitute for net income prepared in accordance with GAAP.

How much revenue did NextEra Energy report in Q2 FY2026?

NextEra Energy reported $7.53 billion in operating revenues for Q2 FY2026, the quarter ended June 30, 2026. That is up 12.4% from $6.7 billion in the same quarter a year earlier.

What was NextEra Energy's earnings per share in Q2 FY2026?

NextEra Energy reported diluted earnings per share of $1.50 for Q2 FY2026, the quarter ended June 30, 2026, against $0.98 a year earlier. Net income attributable to NextEra Energy was $3.14 billion, up 55.0%.

Why did NextEra Energy's net income rise in Q2 FY2026?

Net income attributable to NextEra Energy was $3.14 billion for Q2 FY2026, up 55.0% from $2.03 billion a year earlier. Most of that increase came from a swing to after-tax gains on non-qualifying hedge activity rather than from operations, and the adjusted earnings per share NextEra Energy reports alongside its results rose far less.

How much did FPL and NextEra Energy Resources earn in Q2 FY2026?

Florida Power & Light, NextEra Energy's rate-regulated Florida utility, earned $1.41 billion attributable to NextEra Energy in Q2 FY2026, up 10.7% from $1.27 billion a year earlier. NextEra Energy Resources, the competitive generation, customer supply and regulated transmission business, earned $1.63 billion, up 66.2%, though most of that increase came from non-qualifying hedge activity and mark-to-market gains on nuclear decommissioning fund investments rather than from segment operations.

How this page was built

This page was built from three of NextEra Energy Inc.'s own filings with the SEC, read one at a time. Nothing on it is taken from a pre-tagged dataset, a data vendor or another website. The figures are on the company's own fiscal calendar and in actual dollars, as the filings report them. Where the filings do not support a figure, the record says so instead of reporting a zero; this period names six such gaps.

A single company files thousands of pages with the SEC in a year, and no two companies file them the same way, so the reading and the assembly here are done by AI rather than by rules that break on the differences. Every pass is then audited back against the filings it came from before the page is published, and anything the filings do not support is left out and named rather than filled in. AI can still make mistakes. That is why the accession numbers are printed: the filing is the authority, and this page is a route to it.
