ADR notePer-share figures (earnings per share, dividends per share, net asset value and tangible net asset value per share, and basic earnings per share excluding material notable items) are stated per American Depositary Share. The Form 20-F cover lists 'American Depositary Shares, each representing 5 Ordinary Shares of nominal value US$0.50 each' on the New York Stock Exchange, so each per-ordinary-share amount the filings print is multiplied by 5. Totals and share counts are left as filed; share counts are ordinary shares.

Sign conventionIncome statement charges (interest expense, insurance finance expense, change in expected credit losses, operating expense lines, tax expense, impairment of interest in associate) are stored as positive amounts. Lines that can be either a gain or a loss (gain/loss on sale of business operations, other operating income, share of profit in associates and joint ventures less impairment) keep the filing's sign, negative meaning a loss or expense. Cash flow lines keep the statement's sign: outflows are negative.

Notes

  • Template: bank. HSBC reports under IFRS Accounting Standards in US dollars. The record follows its income statement: net interest income, net fee income, trading and fair value income, insurance lines, and 'revenue', which is HSBC's 'net operating income before change in expected credit losses and other credit impairment charges' (the filing notes this line is also referred to as revenue). Below revenue come expected credit losses, operating expenses, share of profit in associates and joint ventures, profit before tax, tax and profit after tax.
  • Sources: the annual periods come from the Annual Report and Accounts 2025 on Form 20-F (accession 0001089113-26-000010), whose statements print FY2025, FY2024 and FY2023 income statements and cash flows and balance sheets at 31 December 2025 and 2024. The half-year and quarterly periods come from the Interim Report 2026 on Form 6-K (accession 0001089113-26-000025), filed 4 August 2026. The interim results announcement furnished on Form 6-K the same day (accession 0001654954-26-007212) carries the same condensed statements.
  • FY2023 carries no balance_sheet block because the Form 20-F balance sheet presents only 31 December 2025 and 2024. Its key metrics and regulatory capital figures at 31 December 2023 are taken from the Form 20-F key financial metrics table, which prints all three years.
  • HSBC's condensed interim statements are presented for half-years. The three-month figures in the quarterly entries come from two tables in the Interim Report 2026: the reported results table comparing 2Q26 with 2Q25 (with a 1Q26 column), and the net interest income tables (with Quarter to 30 Jun 2026, 31 Mar 2026 and 30 Jun 2025 columns). Those tables print revenue, net interest income, interest income and expense, expected credit losses, operating expenses, operating profit, share of profit in associates and joint ventures less impairment, profit before tax, tax and profit after tax. Q1 2026 plus Q2 2026 equals the half-year 2026 income statement on every one of these lines.
  • The quarterly line 'share_of_profit_in_associates_and_joint_ventures_less_impairment' is the filing's own quarterly caption. For Q2 2025 it is negative because it includes the $1.0bn impairment of HSBC's interest in its associate Bank of Communications (BoCom). The half-year and annual entries show the share of profit and the impairment as separate lines, as the income statement does.
  • The 30 June 2026 balance sheet, capital ratios, net asset value per share and period-end share count sit on the Q2 2026 entry, the quarter that ends on that date. The interim balance sheet's 31 December 2025 column agrees with the Form 20-F on every line used here, as do the 31 December 2025 key metrics.
  • Earnings per share are computed by HSBC on profit attributable to ordinary shareholders of the parent company (net_income_attributable_to_common_shareholders). Profit after tax (net_income) also includes profit attributable to other equity holders, which are the holders of HSBC's contingent convertible capital securities, and to non-controlling interests. Diluted EPS of $0.85 per ordinary share for H1 2026 is $4.25 per ADS, against $0.65 ($3.25 per ADS) for H1 2025.
  • Dividends per share are those 'in respect of the period', converted to a per-ADS amount. For H1 2026 they comprise a first interim dividend of $0.10 per ordinary share and a second interim dividend of $0.10 per ordinary share, $1.00 per ADS in total, the same as H1 2025. The FY2024 figure of $0.87 per ordinary share ($4.35 per ADS) includes a special dividend of $0.21 per ordinary share ($1.05 per ADS) paid from the proceeds of the sale of the banking business in Canada.
  • Notable items affect the comparisons. H1 2025 and Q2 2025 include a $1.1bn loss on the dilution of HSBC's shareholding in BoCom and a $1.0bn impairment of the BoCom investment. H1 2026 includes $0.3bn of disposal losses on classifying HSBC Continental Europe's shareholding in HSBC Bank Malta as held for sale and $0.2bn of foreign currency translation reserve losses recycled on completing the sale of HSBC Life (UK). FY2025 includes $1.5bn of recycled fair value losses on the sale of the retained French home loan portfolio, as well as the BoCom dilution loss and impairment.
  • The privatisation of Hang Seng Bank in H1 2026 cost $13.7bn. It derecognised $7.0bn of non-controlling interests and reduced shareholders' equity by a further $6.7bn, which is why non-controlling interests fell from $7,441m at 31 December 2025 to $399m at 30 June 2026. The cash flow statement shows it as a $13,643m outflow under net cash flow from change in stakes of subsidiaries.
  • No free cash flow is presented. A bank's operating cash flow is driven by movements in customer loans, deposits and trading balances, so it is not a measure of distributable cash. The two investment lines in the cash flow statement are net figures: net cash flows from the purchase and sale of property, plant and equipment, and net investment in intangible assets.
  • Regulatory capital ratios (CET1, total capital, leverage) and risk-weighted assets are as HSBC presents them at the date of reporting. The liquidity coverage ratio is an average: the preceding 12 months at year-ends (Form 20-F) and an average in the interim report.
  • Constant currency figures, banking net interest income, return on average tangible equity excluding notable items and basic EPS excluding material notable items are HSBC's alternative performance measures, and are kept under non_gaap. Banking net interest income adds back the funding costs of the trading book and removes third-party insurance net interest income.
  • The trailing twelve months to 30 June 2026 are derived rather than printed: FY2025 from the Form 20-F, plus H1 2026, less H1 2025, both from the Interim Report 2026. On that basis revenue was $71.9bn and profit before tax was $33.6bn.

Uncertainties

  • The Interim Report 2026 prints no three-month earnings per share, profit attributable to ordinary shareholders, net fee income or cash flow statement. The quarterly entries therefore carry only the lines in its quarterly tables, and per-share earnings exist only for the half-years and full years.
  • No balance sheet at 31 March 2026 or 30 June 2025 is printed in these filings, so the Q1 2026 and Q2 2025 entries carry income statement lines and net interest margin only.
  • The quarterly figures come from tables in the interim management report, not from the condensed interim statements. They tie to the half-year statements: Q1 2026 plus Q2 2026 equals H1 2026 on every line carried.
  • The trailing-twelve-month figures are derived by arithmetic across two filings and are not printed by HSBC.

FAQ · HSBC financial statements

How much revenue did HSBC make in Q2 FY2026?

HSBC Holdings plc reported revenue of $19.12 billion for Q2 FY2026, the quarter ended June 30, 2026, up 16.1% from $16.47 billion in the same quarter a year earlier, with about half of the increase coming from notable items, mainly the absence of the loss HSBC recorded in the year-ago quarter on the dilution of its stake in Bank of Communications. HSBC's revenue is its net operating income before expected credit losses, so it is stated after interest expense.

What was HSBC's profit in Q2 FY2026?

HSBC Holdings plc reported profit before tax of $10.15 billion for Q2 FY2026, up 60.4% from $6.33 billion, and profit after tax of $7.93 billion, up 62.7% from $4.87 billion. Profit after tax is stated before the shares belonging to non-controlling interests and holders of other equity instruments.

Why did HSBC's profit rise so much in Q2 FY2026?

HSBC Holdings plc's profit before tax rose to $10.15 billion in Q2 FY2026 from $6.33 billion a year earlier, primarily because of a net favourable swing in notable items: the losses the year-ago quarter carried on HSBC's stake in Bank of Communications account for more than half of the rise. The increase also reflected higher banking net interest income and higher fee and other income, mainly in Wealth and Wholesale Transaction Banking.

What is HSBC's CET1 ratio?

HSBC Holdings plc's common equity tier 1 (CET1) capital ratio was 14.1% at June 30, 2026, within the range the bank targets. The ratio fell during the first half of the year, reflecting the privatisation of Hang Seng Bank, dividends and higher risk-weighted assets, partly offset by profits.

How this page was built

This page was built from three of HSBC Holdings plc's own filings with the SEC, read one at a time. Nothing on it is taken from a pre-tagged dataset, a data vendor or another website. The figures are on the company's own fiscal calendar and in actual dollars, as the filings report them. Where the filings do not support a figure, the record says so instead of reporting a zero; this period names four such gaps.

A single company files thousands of pages with the SEC in a year, and no two companies file them the same way, so the reading and the assembly here are done by AI rather than by rules that break on the differences. Every pass is then audited back against the filings it came from before the page is published, and anything the filings do not support is left out and named rather than filled in. AI can still make mistakes. That is why the accession numbers are printed: the filing is the authority, and this page is a route to it.
