Emerson Electric reported $4.87 billion in net sales for Q3 FY2026, the quarter ended June 30, 2026, up 7.0% from a year earlier, and net income of $718 million, up 22.5%. Diluted earnings per share were $1.28 against $1.04 a year earlier, and much of that increase came from refunds of tariffs previously paid under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, a benefit Emerson recorded in cost of sales and excluded from its adjusted earnings, saying the timing and amount of any further refunds are uncertain. Growth was led by the Software and Systems group, which holds Emerson's control systems, industrial software and test and measurement businesses and had sales of $1.64 billion, up 11.1%, while free cash flow was $1.32 billion, up 36.4%.

Notes

  • Schema: Emerson is a diversified industrial automation manufacturer, so the standard industrial template is used - net sales, cost of sales, gross profit, pretax earnings, net earnings and diluted EPS; cash, total debt, total assets and total equity; operating cash flow, capital expenditures, free cash flow and dividends.
  • Coverage: the periods shown here are those the FY2025 10-K and the Q3 FY2026 10-Q put on the face of their statements. The FY2025 10-K (accession 0000032604-25-000087) presents three years of earnings and cash flows (fiscal 2023, 2024 and 2025) and two years of balance sheet (September 30, 2024 and 2025). The Q3 FY2026 10-Q (accession 0000032604-26-000043) presents the three months and the nine months ended June 30, 2026 and June 30, 2025, and balance sheets at September 30, 2025 and June 30, 2026. Fiscal 2023 therefore carries no balance sheet, because the 10-K does not print one for that date.
  • Emerson's fiscal year ends September 30. Fiscal 2026 runs from October 1, 2025 to September 30, 2026, so the quarter ended June 30, 2026 is the third quarter of fiscal 2026.
  • Emerson's income statement does not print a gross profit line or an operating income line. Gross profit here is net sales less cost of sales, computed for every period on the same basis. The profit subtotal Emerson itself reports is pretax earnings from continuing operations, which is carried in every period. Note that Emerson's cost of sales includes intangibles amortization (49 million dollars in the third quarter of fiscal 2026 and 50 million in the year-ago quarter) and part of its restructuring charge, so this gross margin is not on the same basis as a company that reports those below the line.
  • The 10-Q's consolidated statement of cash flows covers the nine months only - it prints no three-month column. The operating cash flow, capital expenditures and free cash flow shown for the third quarter of fiscal 2026 and the third quarter of fiscal 2025 therefore come from the free cash flow reconciliation in Emerson's third-quarter fiscal 2026 earnings release, furnished as exhibit 99.1 to the 8-K of August 4, 2026 (accession 0000032604-26-000042). Those are press-release figures, not 10-Q figures. Every other cash flow figure shown here is taken from the cash flow statement in the 10-K or the 10-Q. Free cash flow is operating cash flow less capital expenditures throughout, which is Emerson's own definition.
  • Quarterly depreciation and amortization is taken from the total row of the 10-Q's segment note, which presents it for the three months as well as the nine months; the cash flow statement gives only the nine-month figure.
  • Emerson's balance sheet does not print a total liabilities subtotal. Total liabilities here is total current liabilities plus long-term debt plus other liabilities, which ties to total assets less total equity in every period. Total debt is short-term borrowings and current maturities of long-term debt plus long-term debt. Shares outstanding is read from the balance-sheet caption (and, for June 30, 2026, from the 10-Q cover page): 570.2 million at September 30, 2024, 562.8 million at September 30, 2025 and 557.8 million at June 30, 2026.
  • Fiscal 2023 is dominated by discontinued operations. Of the 13,219 million dollars of net earnings to common stockholders that year, 10,933 million came from discontinued operations - the Climate Technologies (Copeland) divestiture - against 2,286 million from continuing operations. Fiscal 2023 diluted EPS of 22.88 dollars is therefore not comparable to later years; continuing-operations diluted EPS that year was 3.96 dollars. The same distortion runs through fiscal 2023 cash flow: operating cash flow of 637 million is continuing-operations cash of 2,710 million less a 2,073 million outflow from discontinued operations, largely the tax on that gain, so fiscal 2023 free cash flow of 274 million is not a normal year.
  • On March 12, 2025 Emerson bought in the remaining Aspen Technology shares it did not already own, paying 7,244 million dollars. That is why noncontrolling interests in the balance sheet fall from 5,873 million at September 30, 2024 to 16 million at September 30, 2025, why total equity falls even though the company was profitable, and why total debt rises from 7,687 million to 13,116 million over fiscal 2025. AspenTech is now a wholly owned subsidiary and its results are reported inside Control Systems & Software for all periods presented in the 10-K.
  • Segments: effective fiscal 2026 Emerson reports five segments - Control Systems & Software and Test & Measurement (reported together as the Software & Systems group), Sensors and Final Control (reported together as the Intelligent Devices group), and Safety & Productivity. The 10-Q reclassifies the prior-year quarter and nine months onto that basis, so the segment figures carried for the quarters and the year-to-date blocks are comparable with each other. No segment breakdown is carried on the annual periods: the FY2025 10-K predates the change and presents fiscal 2023 to 2025 on the earlier segment structure, which would not line up with the quarterly split. Segment earnings are earnings before interest and taxes as Emerson defines them, and do not sum to pretax earnings - corporate items, stock compensation, unallocated pension and net interest expense sit outside the segments.
  • The third quarter of fiscal 2026 includes an 82 million dollar benefit from refunds of tariffs collected under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, recorded in cost of sales and worth 0.11 dollars per share. Emerson says the timing and amount of any further refunds remain uncertain and that no benefit has been recognized for additional potential refunds.
  • The trailing-twelve-month block is derived, not filed: fiscal 2025 plus the nine months ended June 30, 2026 less the nine months ended June 30, 2025. Trailing per-share and weighted-share figures are derived the same way and are approximations - a weighted average share count is not additive across periods - so the trailing diluted EPS of 4.57 dollars sits slightly below trailing net earnings to common divided by the trailing share count. No trailing balance sheet is given, because a balance sheet is a point in time and the June 30, 2026 balance sheet is already carried on the quarter.
  • The year-to-date block is the nine months ended June 30, 2026 as the 10-Q presents it, with the nine months ended June 30, 2025 held inside it as the prior-year comparative.
  • No split, currency or depositary-receipt adjustment applies. Emerson reports in U.S. dollars, has had no stock split over the period these filings cover, and its common stock is an ordinary U.S. listing rather than a depositary receipt, so per-share figures are carried exactly as the filings print them.

Uncertainties

  • The three-month operating cash flow, capital expenditures and free cash flow for the third quarter of fiscal 2026 and the third quarter of fiscal 2025 are not presented in the 10-Q at all. They are taken from the earnings release furnished with the 8-K of August 4, 2026 (accession 0000032604-26-000042), which is furnished rather than filed. They cannot be cross-checked against the 10-Q, because the 10-Q gives only nine-month cash flows.
  • Trailing-twelve-month figures are derived by arithmetic rather than reported by Emerson. The per-share and weighted-share amounts in that block are the least exact of them, because share counts are weighted averages and do not add across periods.
  • Gross profit and gross margin are derived; Emerson publishes neither, and its cost of sales carries intangibles amortization and some restructuring cost, so these margins are not comparable line-for-line with companies that present those items separately.
  • Total liabilities is a sum of the three liability subtotals Emerson prints rather than a figure it reports. It ties to total assets less total equity in every period carried here.
  • Shares outstanding is read from the narrative caption of the balance sheet (and the 10-Q cover page) rather than from a numeric column of the statement.
  • Fiscal 2023 carries no balance sheet, and the annual periods carry no segment breakdown. Neither is a gap in the record - the FY2025 10-K simply does not print them on the basis used here.
  • Emerson's fiscal 2026 outlook figures quoted in the 10-K and in the earnings releases are management guidance and are deliberately not carried here; only reported results are shown.

How this page was built

This page was built from three of Emerson Electric Co.'s own filings with the SEC, read one at a time. Nothing on it is taken from a pre-tagged dataset, a data vendor or another website. The figures are on the company's own fiscal calendar and in actual dollars, as the filings report them. Where the filings do not support a figure, the record says so instead of reporting a zero; this period names seven such gaps.

A single company files thousands of pages with the SEC in a year, and no two companies file them the same way, so the reading and the assembly here are done by AI rather than by rules that break on the differences. Every pass is then audited back against the filings it came from before the page is published, and anything the filings do not support is left out and named rather than filled in. AI can still make mistakes. That is why the accession numbers are printed: the filing is the authority, and this page is a route to it.
